About This Home
This 2 bed/2 bath home is the latest and greatest addition to Bella Vista, a beachfront neighborhood located in Playa Guasacate.
The design was inspired by the Nicaraguan ranch-style architecture, which features a dropped-hip roof and wrap-around porches that provide plenty of space for outdoor living and entertainment. One of the main goals of the project was to use as much naturally and/or locally-made products for all of the finishes so as to create a tremendous amount of warmth to the home.
A locally-grown hardwood known as Guapinol was used on all exterior roof and porch framing. This wood has a very distinct look as the veins abruptly change from a light, blonde tone to a deep, redish-brown tone. Hand-made clay tiles were left exposed on the overhangs and porches while the floors were all done in a locally-made terracotta tile. This same terracotta tile was cut to create the herringbone accent around the exterior walls, which tie all of these finishes together.
The counters in the kitchen and bathrooms are all finished with a natural, slate-like stone and the showers are both done in a river stone found at a nearby beach. The living room ceiling is finished with natural cane and the bedroom ceilings are both finished in sheet rock. All of the doors are hand-made with solid mahogany, while the two large sliders that open up to the porch are made of Guapinol.
This gorgeous home combines the Nicaraguan ranch-style architecture with local finishes to create a very unique and cozy home just steps from the Pacific.
